Jerusalem as the capital of Arab Cultural 2009
Jerusalem, the jewel of Palestine, holy to the three great monotheistic religions- Islam, Christianity and Judaism, at the heart of the famous old city with its high walls is the dome of the rock. This was built where prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him)ascended to heaven at night (al-isra' and al mi'raj). The great, golden dome was built bye the ummayad caliph abdul malik ibn marwan in ad 692. And all around it are inions from the holy quran in wonderful blue tiles. As one of the worlds oldest and most beautiful architectural treasures.
Celebrating Jerusalem as the capital of Arab Cultural 2009 on the Arab and international levels comes to confirm that Jerusalem is an integral part of the occupied territories in 1967. In addition, to reaffirm that East Jerusalem is the capital of the independent Palestinian State and its Arab cultural identity and in support of the steadfastness of its people against the Israeli occupation and the promotion of commitment to a national and unified Arab identity.

As well as Al-Aqsa mosque was the first Qebla to Muslim. So that Muslims have built a lot of mosques and produced beautiful archeological sites. The most important is Alaqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock. Besides the Church of Holy Sepulture.
Now, Muslim and Arab around the world wanted to return the importance of this land to its high position and importance so that, they named it for the City of Arab Culture. By this , this city which is now in critical situation under the control of Jews, remain an important to all Arabs and Muslims. This also can improve the international understanding of Jerusalem cause as a city for all Muslims and Christians.
The holy land of Jerusalem played an important role from past to present, could the Arab now bring it back to Muslims control and make it the land of peace to all as it was through history.
